The humble Bunnings sausage has become such a part of Aussie culture, it’s now being used to tempt overseas visitors ahead of the NFL’s historic Melbourne clash.
The snag in bread has been added to a so-called foodie passport, encouraging visiting NFL fans to sample all Melbourne has to offer when the San Francisco 49ers take on the LA Rams at the MCG.

The 49ers are cooking up a grand plan for global supporters to get a proper taste of Melbourne, handing travellers a foodie passport featuring special NFL-themed treats at venues across the city.
“Definitely keep your eyes peeled, we’ll have activations throughout the whole week in the lead-up to the game,” Jimmy Hurlston from Easey’s in Collingwood said.
The NFL clash is a potential bonanza for local businesses, with ticket sales coming from 35 different countries.
The list of must-see menus includes Collingwood’s Easey’s Burgers, Williamstown’s Grace’s Elegant Espresso, Nonna’s House in Fitzroy, Transport Bar, and American Doughnut Kitchen at Queen Victoria Market, which is offering up a Niners Pack in the 49ers colours.
“We are very excited, we are waiting for that moment and we are very happy to do that,” one venue owner said.

The 49ers foodie list features some off-the-beaten-path choices, but they are all undeniably cult favourites.
The ultimate choice, though, is Bunnings in Port Melbourne.
“I had a few people message me about it, claiming that that Bunnings may not necessarily be the most consistent of the Bunnings either,” Hurlston said.
“Bunnings as a whole is so very iconically Australian and something that all visitors to Australia should experience.”
The San Francisco 49ers and the LA Rams face off at the MCG on September 11.
